Dear Mascara-loving Ladies,

We have compiled a list of Mascara Reminders! There are always rumors and rules about mascara; we did some research and found some sound advice.
  • ~Do not pump the wand in and out of the bottle; this pushes air into the tube and dries the mascara out much faster. What an awful way to waste your favorite mascara, especially if it was a makeup ‘splurge!’

  • ~If you put on more than one coat of mascara, avoid letting the first coat dry before adding more product unless the specific product’s instructions state otherwise. This also applies to mascara primer; best results are achieved when the primer layer is still wet. No one wants stiff, clumpy lashes.

  • ~Don’t be afraid of colored mascara! Black and brown are indispensable, but occasionally a blue or purple mascara can be fun. A shade complementary to your eye color can make your blue, green, or brown eyes pop.

  • ~Never assume that an inexpensive mascara isn’t a good product. A lot of effective mascaras can be found at drugstores. One great example is Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara—it tops most makeup artists’ lists, and it costs around $6. Furthermore, lots of women use expensive mascaras for special occasions and more inexpensive brands for daily use.

  • ~Don’t forget that old mascaras can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Most brands have antibacterial agents on the wands, but these only last for a few months. It’s best to dispose of old mascaras after about four months. Eye infections are never stylish.

Remember, if you ever have questions for the chicks, or want us to test or investigate a rumor or mascara myth, just send us an email or comment on our blog. We'd love to hear from you!

Stylishly yours,
The 6Chicks
