NOT IN THE DARK!

Hey 6chicks bloggers! I’m Chloe and I’ve got tons of stories and tips about my favorite mascaras for everyone.

As we know, mascara is the number one suggested quick make-up fixer-upper for girls on the go. It seems that every magazine I read says, “apply lip gloss and mascara when you’re in a hurry!” But a good family-friend of mine told me about a dramatic mix up between the two.

She was at a play when she decided to touch up her make up in the dark. Every girl relies on her cell phone as a flashlight or sense of touch to find items in their over-sized purses. However, cell phones were obviously not allowed during the show, so she just tried to feel for the tube of hydrating lip gloss. She found what she thought was the gloss and applied the wand all over her lips. But the texture felt a little odd and not very hydrating; in fact, it felt like paint. But she ignored it and waited patiently for the show to end so she and her husband could leave. After the show concluded she walked out of the auditorium and kept noticing the awkward stares people were giving her as she walked out. When she got to the car she flipped the passenger seat visor down to see why she could have possibly gotten those awkward stares. She then saw the most unflattering lip color that had ever clashed with her skin tone. She had put MASCARA all over her lips! Talk about a goth-mod look... I don’t think InStyle would ever suggest that idea for a quick and trendy make-up routine!

So ladies please wait till you have a light or a mirror before you touch up your make-up.

Dear Mascara-loving Ladies,

We have compiled a list of Mascara Reminders! There are always rumors and rules about mascara; we did some research and found some sound advice.
  • ~Do not pump the wand in and out of the bottle; this pushes air into the tube and dries the mascara out much faster. What an awful way to waste your favorite mascara, especially if it was a makeup ‘splurge!’

  • ~If you put on more than one coat of mascara, avoid letting the first coat dry before adding more product unless the specific product’s instructions state otherwise. This also applies to mascara primer; best results are achieved when the primer layer is still wet. No one wants stiff, clumpy lashes.

  • ~Don’t be afraid of colored mascara! Black and brown are indispensable, but occasionally a blue or purple mascara can be fun. A shade complementary to your eye color can make your blue, green, or brown eyes pop.

  • ~Never assume that an inexpensive mascara isn’t a good product. A lot of effective mascaras can be found at drugstores. One great example is Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara—it tops most makeup artists’ lists, and it costs around $6. Furthermore, lots of women use expensive mascaras for special occasions and more inexpensive brands for daily use.

  • ~Don’t forget that old mascaras can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Most brands have antibacterial agents on the wands, but these only last for a few months. It’s best to dispose of old mascaras after about four months. Eye infections are never stylish.

Remember, if you ever have questions for the chicks, or want us to test or investigate a rumor or mascara myth, just send us an email or comment on our blog. We'd love to hear from you!

Stylishly yours,
The 6Chicks
